Woking Christmas Tree

L to R: The Mayor and Mayoress of Woking, Cllr Michael Smith and Mrs Anne Smith, Dr Munira Mohammed (WABF), Andy Calfe, (Woking BC), Mohammed Zubair (Galaxy Cars), Shahid Azeem (Chairman of WABF), and Dame Sarah Goad, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey.

Representatives of Woking Asian Business Forum (WABF) joined Dame Sarah Goad, Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, the Mayor and Mayoress of Woking, Cllr Michael Smith and Mrs Anne Smith, and members of Woking Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Team today (Thursday 15 November) in Jubilee Square to formally hand over their gift of a 35-foot Christmas tree to the people of Woking Borough.

The tree is a Nordmann Fir, sourced from Norfolk, and it will be standing in the Square until Sunday 6 January 2013.

Shahid Azeem, Chair of WABF, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to support the celebrations in Woking again, by donating the Christmas tree to Woking Town Centre. We are keen to demonstrate that the Asian Business Forum is connected to the community, and we wish everyone in Woking a very joyful festive season."

One of WABF’s long-standing members, Galaxy Cars, has joined with the business network to sponsor the tree’s Christmas lights.

After its time in Jubilee Square, the tree will be chipped, so that the wood can be reused as wood mulch. Andy Calfe, Neighbourhood Team Leader for Woking Borough Council said, "We are very grateful to the Asian Business Forum, and Galaxy Cars, for their generous gifts, which visitors to Woking will be able to enjoy until the New Year."
