Sporting dinner to raise funds for The Pakistan Food Relief programme - 04-10-2010

One of the BBC’s biggest names in sports reporting and a local World Champion in rowing will be the guests of honour and speakers at a special dinner at the HG Wells Centre in Woking on 22nd October to raise funds for Pakistan Food Relief.

Gary Richardson, the sports presenter on the BBC’s national Radio 4 and 5 Live stations, will be talking about his 35 year career where he has covered 5 Olympics and Wimbledon tennis since 1990.

He even snatched an interview with Bill Clinton during a rain break at the Championships, and has talked to some of the biggest stars in sport, show business and politics.

Joining him as a speaker will be the formidable Vicki Hansford, a world champion rower and honorary doctor at the University of Surrey. Dr Hansford is known for her tireless work to give all young people equal opportunities in sport, whatever their background.

Shahid Azeem, chairman of the Woking Asian Business Forum, says: “These two friends are wonderful speakers and terrific people, and it should be an excellent evening. But it is also a vitally important evening.

“We’re holding an auction to raise funds for the Pakistan Food Relief Programme and even if the waters and floods have now receded, there are millions of people, and particularly children, who desperately need food relief, shelter and medicine. Still, and for the foreseeable future. So, we absolutely musn’t forget about them.”
